Communication and media expert Howard Rheingold interviews Katie Salen about the themes and aspirations of the 2011 Digital Media and Learning Conference in Long Beach, CA, Mar. 3-5, 2011. Salen, a game designer, is professor of Design and Technology, and Director of the Center for Transformative Media at Parsons the New School for Design, and Executive Director of a non-profit called the Institute of Play that is focused on games and learning, as well as the founder and Executive Director of Design of Quest to Learn, a new 6-12th grade public school in New York City. She is this year's conference chair.
